Why We’re Transitioning from Wholegrain Milling to Kialla Pure Foods
At Sovereign Foods we don’t choose suppliers based solely on price. We look for Australian businesses that share our commitment to quality, transparency and supporting local growers.
As our remaining Wholegrain Milling stock sells through, we’ll gradually be transitioning part of our flour range to Kialla Pure Foods.
Rather than making the change all at once, we’ll update products as existing stock is exhausted. During this transition, some products may still be supplied from Wholegrain Milling while others will come from Kialla. Where this applies, the relevant product pages will let you know.
Why is this happening?
Earlier this year, Wholegrain Milling made the decision to exit the Certified Organic flour sector.
While this marks the end of a long-standing relationship, we completely understand that businesses evolve over time. We’d like to thank the Wholegrain Milling team for the years they have spent supporting Australian organic grain growers and helping make Australian grown organic flour more widely available.
For us, the next step was finding other Australian mills that shared the same commitment to Australian growers, quality and transparency. The start of this process was a bit of a no-brainer: Kialla Pure Foods.
Why start with Kialla Pure Foods?
We didn’t simply look for another supplier. We looked for another milling partner.
Kialla Pure Foods has been milling Australian Certified Organic grain for many years and has built strong relationships with Australian growers across the country. With a focus on producing high quality organic products Kialla will ensure that we are able to continue to supply you with Australian grown organic flour.
One of the biggest advantages for our customers is that Kialla offers a broader Certified Organic range, allowing us to continue expanding the products we can source from Australian growers.
Will the flour be different?
Every harvest is different.
Grain is a natural product, influenced by the season, rainfall, soil and growing conditions. Even flour produced by the same mill will vary slightly from one harvest to the next.
Changing mills may introduce some subtle differences in colour, protein or baking characteristics, but our goal remains exactly the same:
To source the best Australian grown Certified Organic flour available.
Where practical, we’ll continue providing information about the grain varieties, growers and production methods behind each product.
What isn’t changing?
While the bags may look different, the principles behind them remain the same.
We’re still committed to:
- Australian grown grain.
- Supporting Australian farmers.
- Certified Organic production.
- Honest product information.
- Long-term relationships with growers and processors.
- Transparency about where your food comes from.
Those principles have guided Sovereign Foods from the beginning, and they won’t change simply because the name on the bag changes.
Heritage Flour
Many customers have asked specifically about our Heritage Flour.
We’re pleased to say that we’ll continue offering Heritage Flour using the Foster wheat variety developed by Paul Murphy, the farmer who helped revive this historic Australian wheat and supplied Wholegrain Milling the grain organic heritage flour before they made the decision to switch it from organic to certified sustainable.
So our heritage flour will now be milled by Kialla Pure Foods, allowing us to continue offering this remarkable grain as Wholegrain Milling’s organic production comes to an end.
During the transition
We’ll update individual product pages as they move across to Kialla Pure Foods.
If you have any questions about a particular product, or you’d like to know which mill your next order will come from, please get in touch. We’re always happy to help.
As always, thank you for supporting Australian growers, Australian millers and small independent food businesses. Every purchase helps strengthen a more resilient Australian food system, and we’re grateful to have you as part of that journey.
