These chemical free chia seeds come from the Salvetti family farm in Tolga, North Queensland, where the Salvetti Family have been farming there for over 80 years. Starting with grasses and legumes for animal feed, the Salvettis decided to try their hand at chia.
Chia (Salvia Hispanica) is part of the mint family and grows as an annual herb, reaching up to 1.75 metres tall. The chia plant produces beautiful purple and white flowers that eventually turn into the pods that hold the seeds.
Known for being nutrient-dense, Chia is packed with omega-3s, fibre, and protein and can be used in a variety of dishes, like smoothies, puddings, bread or just sprinkled on your cereal. It also makes a great vegan egg substitute, just combine 1 tablespoon of chia to 1/3 cups of water.
