What is Quinoa?

Quinoa is a grain-like seed (pseudocereal) from the amaranth family that has become popular for its balanced nutrition and culinary flexibility. It cooks to a fluffy texture that absorbs flavours well and fits into many recipes, from warm grain bowls to cold salads and grain-based sides.

This product is grown on the Damen family’s certified organic farm in North-West Tasmania. The seed is cleaned, stored and packed on-farm under Australian organic standards to give you a traceable, low food-miles grain.

How Do You Cook Quinoa?

  1. Rinse the quinoa under cold running water to remove any surface dust or residue. Quinoa has a natural coating of Saponin that is quite bitter and needs to be removed before cooking. Try and get your water as clear as you can 2-3 rinses is not excessive

  2. Combine one cup of quinoa with about 1 1/4 cups of liquid in a pot.

  3. Bring to the boil, simmer for 5 minutes and leave until the liquid is absorbed. Should take about 15 minutes

  4. Remove from heat and let sit briefly before fluffing with a fork.

Cooked quinoa can be served warm with vegetables, folded into salads, stirred into soups, or used in baking and grain mixes. Our favourite is our brown rice and quinoa balls

Culinary Uses

  • Serve as a base for grain bowls or pilafs

  • Mix into salads for texture and nutrition
