These organic steel cut oats are produced by Blue Lake Milling from Australian grown oats. Cut from whole oat groats, they retain more structure than rolled oats and are suited to porridge and slow cooking.

What are steel cut oats?

Steel cut oats are made by taking whole oat groats and cutting them into smaller pieces using steel blades. Unlike rolled oats, they are not steamed and flattened, so they retain more of the grain’s original structure.

Because of this, steel cut oats take longer to cook and produce a firmer, more textured porridge. They sit between oat groats and rolled oats in both processing and cooking time. Groats are the whole grain and take the longest to cook, while rolled oats are flattened and cook more quickly.

The oats used in this product are grown by Australian organic farmers and processed by Blue Lake Milling. This provides a consistent supply of organic oats when single grower products are not available.

About the producer

Blue Lake Milling is an organic oat processor based in South Australia. They specialise in processing Australian grown oats into groats, rolled oats and flour.

They work with a network of certified organic growers and also process oats from specific farms, including Burrum. This allows for both single-origin products and broader supply when required.
