These organic rolled oats are produced by Blue Lake Milling from Australian grown oats. They are a staple pantry ingredient suited to porridge, baking and everyday cooking.

About rolled oats

Rolled oats are made by taking whole oat groats, steaming them and then rolling them into flakes. This process reduces cooking time while retaining the structure of the grain. Compared with oat groats, rolled oats cook more quickly and produce a softer texture.

The oats used in this product are grown by a range of Australian organic farmers and processed by Blue Lake Milling. While we usually source oats from specific growers, seasonal availability means we occasionally rely on processor-sourced grain. These oats provide a consistent and practical alternative when single-origin supply is limited.

About the producer

These oats are processed by Blue Lake Milling, an organic oat mill based in South Australia. Blue Lake Milling specialises in processing Australian grown oats into a range of products including groats, rolled oats and flour.

They also process oats grown by Stephen and Tania at Burrum, whose grain we use when available. In this case, the oats are sourced from a broader group of organic growers and milled by Blue Lake to the same standard.

Do these oats contain gluten?

No. Beyond the problematic nature of oats and their gluten status and digestibility,  which we discuss in this blog post, Blue Lake Milling's oats are processed in facilities that handle wheat and barley. We don’t recommend them for coeliacs or people with severe gluten intolerance. 

How do these oats differ from your Burrum oats?

These oats are sourced from a range of organic growers rather than a single farm. They are processed by the same mill that processes our oats from Burrum so the quality is as close as we can get

How should I store rolled oats?

Where are these oats grown?

These oats are grown in Australia by certified organic farmers and processed in South Australia.

Our Bags are made from brown recycled paper and have a 100% natural corn-based compostable biofilm. All you need to do is pop off the label before you put it in your compost (We are looking for a cost-effective compostable solution to our labels). These bags are a good short term but are not completely airtight. When you get your goodies home, be sure to pop your products into a jar and store them in a cool, dry place out of sunlight. You can reuse these bags around the house as a short-term solution to keep things dry and reduce air contact.
