If you are a lover of Indian cuisine wondered what is missing when you’ve cooked it at home—the answer could lie in the aromatic spice known as fenugreek.
These fenugreek seeds are grown by Kym and Neil Sullivan on their regenerative farm in Linthorpe, Queensland, part of the eastern Darling Downs. Certified organic and biodynamic, the Sullivans grow a diverse rotation of grains, legumes, and specialty crops—including this uniquely Australian-grown fenugreek.
Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) is a small, golden seed used both as a culinary spice and for sprouting, tea infusions, and cover cropping. It’s known for its rich, maple-like aroma and slightly bitter taste when raw, which mellows and sweetens when cooked or roasted.
These seeds are whole and untreated, meaning they’re suitable for sprouting, grinding into spice powder, or planting as a green manure crop in home gardens. A versatile pantry or permaculture staple.

About Fenugreek:
Fenugreek is widely used in Indian, Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean cooking, and increasingly in herbal medicine and permaculture systems. The seed is high in fibre and has been traditionally used to aid digestion and blood sugar balance.
In the garden, it’s also an excellent nitrogen-fixing legume and can be grown as a cover crop to suppress weeds, improve soil fertility, and add biomass.
About the Growers:
Neil and Kym Sullivan farm 183 acres on rich basalt soils in Queensland’s Darling Downs. Their system is based on long crop rotations, no synthetic chemicals, and improving soil structure with minimal tillage. They grow a mix of specialty grains and legumes with full transparency and traceability. Learn more about them here.
FAQs
Can I cook with this fenugreek?
Yes—toast the seeds gently to mellow their bitterness and bring out their nutty, maple-like flavour. Use in curries, lentil dishes, spice blends, or breads.
Is this seed suitable for sprouting?
Yes—these are whole, untreated seeds and sprout well. Rinse, soak, and sprout in a jar or tray over a few days for microgreens or salad toppers.
Can I plant it in the garden?
Absolutely. Fenugreek is a nitrogen-fixing legume and great as a short-cycle green manure or living mulch in vegetable beds.
Is it gluten-free?
Yes—fenugreek is naturally gluten-free. It’s also free from any chemical treatments or additives. Just be mindful we do store and pack glutinous products in our warehouse.
How should I store it?
