Buckwheat kernels are the hulled seeds of the buckwheat plant — a hardy, broadleaf pseudograin with no relation to wheat. Despite the name, buckwheat is entirely gluten-free and rich in complex carbohydrates and fibre. These whole kernels are ideal for cooking like a grain, sprouting, toasting (as kasha), or milling into fresh flour.
Ways to Use Buckwheat Kernels:
-
Cook like rice, quinoa or millet
-
Make warming buckwheat porridge
-
Toast to make kasha for savoury dishes
-
Add to soups, stews or salad bowls
-
Use in granola or as a crunchy topper
-
Mill into fresh buckwheat flour
About the Producers:
These kernels are grown by Bio-Oz, a family-owned Australian business specialising in buckwheat. Located in Parkes, NSW, and operated by Julie and Geoff Brown, Bio-Oz has championed local buckwheat production for more than 25 years.
They grow and process all their buckwheat without synthetic inputs, and are founding members of the Sustainable Farmers of Australia initiative — promoting regenerative, low-input farming practices and domestic grain independence.
