FAQs
Is besan flour the same as chickpea flour?
Almost. Besan is typically made from hulled brown chickpeas (chana dal), while chickpea flour may also refer to flour made from whole white chickpeas (kabuli). Both are used similarly, but besan has a finer texture and a stronger flavour.
Does besan flour contain gluten?
No. Chickpeas are naturally gluten-free, and Four Leaf Milling’s besan flour contains no wheat or gluten additives. However, it is processed in a facility that handles glutinous grains.
Can I use this in baking?
Absolutely. Besan can be used to make flatbreads, fritters, cookies, or even as a partial substitute for wheat flour in dense loaves or cakes. It adds moisture, structure, and a gentle nutty flavour.
Is besan flour good for vegans?
Yes. It’s an excellent egg replacer in savoury recipes—just mix with water to bind fritters, thicken sauces, or whip up a vegan omelette.
